Cable fatigue test bench
The Fatigue Bench test on Cables (BFC) has important mechanical capacities, ultimate static load equal to 24 000 kN and ultimate dynamic loads equal to 2 000 kN (axial) and 1 000 kN (transversal) and is used to test at real scale cables used n civil engineering structures and in RME (Renewable Marine Energy) applications. It allows realizing different static or dyanmic mechanical tests in tension that can be combined with flexure depending on the studied application. Fatigue resistance analysis of anchorage and dynamic cables is thus possible on existing solutions or solutions currently unded development (during an optimization process ).
The platform also allows validating monitoring solutions (SHM) for cables during the reals scale tests. The Fatigue bench test on Cables is part of the national platform THeoREM (Ecole Centrale de Nantes, Ifremer, Open-C, Université Gustave Eiffel) recognized as TGIR by the French Ministry of Research. A second facility is currently being developed and financed by CPER 2021 2027. It should allow including environmental issues (marine environement) during the mechanical tests.
The SMC laboratory in which is included this platform disposes besides of several equipments and skills that allows anlyzing the obtained results and providing partners with complete contributions: microstructural analysis platform (SEM, microscopes,...), non destructive control tools, additonal mechanical benches and tensile machines, ...

The platform in detail
The platform is used in several national or european research projects on RME cables (anchorage, electrical) and civil engineering cables (cable-stayed cables, prestressing cables, …).
The platform is used in collaborative projects or as service provision for industrials in offshore domain (oil and gaz, RME) and in civil engineering.
