Unique in Europe, the site is primarily intended for the application of methods for locating buried objects under perfectly controlled conditions: the surrounding soils are well identified and carefully compacted to ensure their stability over time, and the objects - various pipes, rocks, cavities, masonry - are perfectly located in a local geodetic reference frame. This enables the performance of methods and equipment to be revealed and fine-tuned, and provides data for testing or calibrating numerical models. The geophysical test site is also useful for comparative tests between equipment or methods, on the initiative of measurement equipment users. Last but not least, it is an excellent support for training courses in the use of geophysical methods or in the interpretation of measurements and images.
