Annual Kantar surveys and related data bases of the Université Gustave Eiffel, « Parc Auto » Panel
The "Parc Auto" survey has been carried out every year jointly by Université Gustave Eiffel and Kantar since 1984. It describes the fleet of cars in households and their use; it provides information on their equipment (private vehicles and some commercial vehicles available to households, but also more recently their motorized two-wheelers) and their use, including the mileage covered by these vehicles, distinguished by type of engine. Given its longitudinal nature (successive re-interviews of the same households), it feeds a multi-year database of Université Gustave Eiffel, which provides essential material for many research studies (long-term trends, changes in behavior, etc., for example on the switch to diesel, demotorization, vulnerability to changes in fuel prices).
The "Parc Auto" survey and database represent the most solid representative source of "continuous" observation of the structure of the market (new/second hand), of the fleet and of household car behavior. Each year, 10,000 panel households describe their fleet (all vehicles with a B license, cars and light trucks), in terms of equipment (equipment rate, fleet volume, range, power, etc.) and usage (mileage, consumption). Information is also collected on the opinions and behavior (types of use, users, other mobility) of individuals, whether or not they are the main users.

The platform in detail
Research areas: changes in automobile equipment and use: traffic balances, decoupling of equipment and use, peak car, economic and social differentiation, switch from gasoline to diesel (1990s and 2000s), dieselisation, impacts of fuel price increases and taxes, car dependence and household energy vulnerability, new services and new uses (car-sharing, car-pooling over nearly a decade), demotorization, yellow vests (2019), low-income household motoring, opinions on recent taxes, bonus-malus, autonomous vehicles, but also data for local applications (for examples: energy and emissions diagnostics, Crit'air stickers, "plaque ta caisse" type operations (Grenoble), etc.
Hosting of PhD students and interns on various topics (barbecue effect, peak car France and Île-de-France, demographic models in north-south comparison, automobility at the turn of the millennium, etc.), up to recent theses (urban dynamics and daily mobility, 2019). "Parc Auto" is also used in annual intervention at the "Ponts Formation" trining programme. The laboratory hotsts all types of subjects related to the automobile. It is to be noticed that the use of the data can not be authorized for non membres of Université Gustave Eiffel, except for particular cases to be managed on a case by case basis in reception at the lab, and without any possibility of taking out the data.
This database serves as a barometer of equipment and usage for the CCFA (publication of its annual statistics brochure).
