Road Reference and Experimentation Tracks (PRER)
The reference track and its instrumented vehicles were created in 1980 on the Gustave Eiffel University Nantes site.
They are used in research projects (grip, noise, rolling resistance, plain) for approval of measurement systems and qualification og auscultation equipement. The tracks combines a 1300 m raised virage and 1000 m of straignt line with more than 17 types of material. Sensors enable measurement of environmental and weather condition.
The track enables studies on :
- characterisation of tire / road contact;
- characterisation of the dynamic behavior of the vehicle;
- modeling of vehicle consumption;
- studies of user trajectories.
The two instrumented vehicles can reach more than 130 km/h and enable precise study of the infrastructure/vehicle interaction.

The platform in detail
Experimental validation of tire/track contact modles (grip, noise, rolling resistance) and dynamic vehicle models;
Setting up of demonstrators (specific surfacing, vehicle/infrastructure communication systems);
Verification/accreditation of measuring devices for harmonization, infra/vehicle communication for safety applications, improvement of autonomous shuttle.
Practical courses at Master levels dedicated to vehicle dynamics or acoustics.
Rental of the track fo testing (accreditation, cross tests, calibration of equipements, qualification for testing centers); Rental for beltoise, accreditation of devices for STAC, tests for CSA certification (radar manufacturers).
