TRANSPOLIS
Inaugurated in 2019, TRANSPOLIS is a platform for experimentation in mobility. It is organised into several flexible, modular zones, configured to adapt to the various experiments. Thanks to its modularity and high level of pre-existing equipment (320 km of optical fibers interconnecting more than 150 computer terminals in real time, IoT, G5, 5G, Wifi etc.), the Transpolis platform is structured around major activities:
- A scale-1 urban mobility laboratory based on a systems approach and the dynamic mobilization of the many players involved (vehicle technology, infrastructure, energy networks, users, transport operators, planning, etc.), the only site of its kind in Europe;
- Vehicle and road equipment test sites.
The management and operation of the platform has been entrusted to a company: SAS Transpolis. The Université Gustave Eiffel, in addition to its role as "co-owner", is responsible for coordinating academic research activities on the platform.

The platform in detail
The Transpolis platform is organized into several sectors, which are themselves grouped into 3 main zones with potentially different research activities:
1/ Urban System Zone: studies and research on urban mobility at scale 1 with the possibility of evaluating in situ the expected innovations;
2/ Architecture and comfort zone: studies and research on vehicles in different driving situations on country roads or freeways, qualification tests on automated driving assistance systems (ADAS);
3/ Safety and security zone: vehicle crash tests on safety road equipment and studies for the development of innovative safety road equipment.
The undeniable advantage of the platform and the SAS that operates it lies in their ability to meet the needs of manufacturers and researchers wishing to test new technologies or new uses in conditions identical to the real thing, in a safe and controlled manner. The platform offers tomorrow's mobility players, such as automotive manufacturers (cars, trucks and buses), equipment manufacturers, infrastructure manufacturers, local authorities, mobility organizers and researchers in all fields, a tool of excellence for the entire sector.
Pratical exercises (mecanics, véhicles, electronics).
Testing driving assistance systems to detect vulnerable road users;
Tests and support for the development of driver assistance systems for equipment manufacturers and vehicle manufacturers, etc.
Transpolis is a Technical Service of the French State. As such, the Transpolis test laboratory is authorised to carry out approval tests on commercial vehicles and heavy goods vehicles (categories N2/N3) and buses (categories M2/M3) for the following driver assistance functions (ADAS):
- R131: Automatic emergency braking system (AEBS)
- R130: Lane Departure Warning System (LDWS)
- R151: Blind spot monitoring system for bicycle detection (BSIS)
- R159: Pedestrian and cyclist start detection system (MOIS)
